A Call to Action →
killingcharlemagne: I am one of the few. The byproduct of war. And I came home whole, only with a few nicks and bruises and scars not easily seen. Losing too many of those I loved. Staining my skin in memoriam. But I have refused to complain. To come against and use this forum, or any other, as a soap box against our society. Instead turning memory into fiction, playing my role as a writer....

A Californian's North Dakota Winter Experience #7
What North Dakota winter?!  I’m still a newbie to this strange land, but I’m pretty sure winter is lost somewhere and needs directions.  Usually, though, regardless of climate zone, an unusually warm winter is often followed by kick-ass storms that make up their tardiness, and/or a spring from hell (when, of course, hell freezes too).

These Flowers
“These flowers…these flowers are for you.” May they bring a smile to your face, and so, too— to mine, May they spark an embrace that releases none too soon, May they erase all the hurt that took place under a blue moon “Please take these flowers. They are for you.” May they bring back the glimmer to your eyes and the hope, to mine May they be a...

North Dakota DMV: “So how was your experience at this DMV office as compared to the one you’re used to in [Fresno/Clovis] California?” Me: “Oh, it was great! I didn’t have to wait four hours to see someone, I didn’t wait in a line that stretched a couple blocks, and the employees speak fluent English!” North Dakota DMV: “Great, great. I bet the...

Me: “I admit…it is a little cold here in North Dakota. My fingers, nose, ears, and lips are all scattered across Bismarck.  They froze and fell off…and FLEW AWAY IN THE FREEEEEZING GUSTY, BLUSTERY, FRIGID WINDS THAT WERE BLOWING ALL DAY TODAY!!!!” North Dakotan: “This is a spring thaw, compared to what it gets later this winter!” Me: [remember, my ears froze...

Eldorado
Gaily bedight,        A gallant knight, In sunshine and in shadow,        Had journeyed long,        Singing a song, In search of Eldorado.        But he grew old —        This knight so bold — And o’er his heart a shadow        Fell as he found        No spot of ground That looked like Eldorado.        And, as his strength        Failed him at length, He met a pilgrim...
